Fire spread test on materials used in vehicle interiors

Abstract

The safety and environmental protection requirements of vehicles are constantly becoming more and more strict. Research and development in the automotive industry is inevitable to meet these requirements. Safety regulations also determine fire protection requirements, that is the reason why it is relevant to conduct research in this topic. Fires can occur during the operation of vehicles and in the event of accidents, so personally, I consider fire protection examination of automotive materials to be important. The fire protection examination of all structural elements of motor vehicles would exceed the scope limitations of this article, so in my research work I examine the materials used in the passenger compartment of certain vehicles. My main goal is to point out how the materials used today affect the fire safety of vehicles, by performing a fire protection test on the samples I prepared in the laboratory. I subjected the selected interior materials to a vertical and horizontal fire spread test.
